A (half) Summer’s Worth of Mishmash
Enjoying a summer snow cone gelato at The Snowball Stand,
a Maryland landmark since 1974!

It has been one of those creative challenges…
this blog post had me STUMPED. Bits and pieces of my past month, begged me to attempt to cleverly craft them into one cohesive, interesting, spell-binding bit of reading. After much deliberation, I realized that this mishmash, or as Buddy Sorrell (character on the classic TV show, The Dick Van Dyke Show) so creatively put it, “mishmosh”, of the month’s events are colorfully portrayed in the photos that I have so eagerly taken. So, what better way to pull this hodgepodge of summer frivolity all together than to just share with you, my dear reader, my past month in photos? Done!
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
One of my very favorite places on Earth!
The sea,
once it casts its spell,
holds one in its net of wonder
forever.

Unable to resist, I take this selfie during a walk on the beach on Hilton Head Island. :o)

One of the many fun sand creations spotted on the beach. :o)
Did you know that at the end of each beach day,
these, and other any holes made in the sand on Hilton Head Island,
should be filled, allowing baby sea turtles a clear access to the sea ?

Growing Up in Disneyland
A highlight in my blogging “career” was an entertaining and informative phone interview with author Ron DeFore (son of actor Don Defore),
discussing his (then) upcoming book
Growing UP in Disneyland.
My grilled chicken dinner, slathered in the truly delicious barbecue sauce made from the recipe from Don DeFore’s Silver Banjo Barbecue Restaurant in Disneyland.
You can get the recipe, and read about the interview, here.
Check out this related blog post from December 2018, here,
where Ron graciously emailed answers to my questions about his father’s film,
It Happened on 5th Avenue,
Returning from Hilton Head, I was happy to see that my copy of
Growing UP in Disneyland was waiting for me!
I was happy to find the book waiting for me upon returning from Hilton Head. Pacing myself, to make it last a little bit longer, I finished reading this book last week. It was a delight!
Ron has succeeded in combining the memories of his father, as well as where life’s road has taken him, in this entertaining book. I loved reading about Don’s friendships with Walt Disney and Ronald Reagan, among other prominent figures of the day, along with his various business and career ventures, and his deep love for his family. Reading about Ron going to Disneyland every weekend with his siblings, paling around with other celebrity kids, like Dick Van Dyke’s offspring, and swimming in Esther Williams pool was like catnip for this classic TV and movie fan!
I could go on, but I don’t want to spoil this read for you. I recommend that you get a copy of this book, and read it for yourself. :o)
Disc Golf
I tried my hand, for the first time, at Disc/Frisbee Golf. I will not be going on the pro circuit any time soon!
My hubby and son enjoy playing Disc Golf at a nearby park.

My Mid-century Find
I was happy to find this starburst clock at our local senior center white elephant sale the other day!
I was excited to find this $5 bargain this week. :o)
Old Ellicott City, Maryland
Yesterday I took a little time out for myself in nearby Old Ellicott City.
A view looking down Old Ellicott City‘s Main Street
I stopped for breakfast at Georgia Grace Cafe.
My omelet was delicious!
Next, I took a leisurely walk, strolling across the bridge.
A historical marker
Time to head back across the bridge to home.
