Ring in the New Year with These Five Movies

Happy New Year!

Somehow, another New Year’s Eve is upon us!
I’ve already happily devoured a meal of Chinese take out,
orange chicken and fried rice to be exact, and now I look forward to watching the ball drop in New York City from the warmth of my home, via TV.

In-between the meal and midnight,
I will enjoy taking in a couple of my favorite New Year’s Eve movies,
which I have listed below (Listed in the order of their theatrical release).
I have also included the recipe for one of my favorite snacks,
that pairs perfectly with any movie.

Happy New Year!

Fun Movies for New Year’s Eve

Bachelor Mother (1939)
(Not Rated)
Ginger Rogers and David Niven
A Romantic Comedy

Ginger Roger’s character is mistakenly identified as the mother
of an abandoned newborn.

Ocean’s Eleven (1960)
(Not Rated)
Frank Sinatra and The Rat Pack
An entertaining heist film.

A group of WWII buddies plan to rob numerous Las Vegas casinos
on New Year’s Eve.

This film often played on New Year’s Eve when I was young.

Way, Way Out (1966)
(Not Rated)
Jerry Lewis and Connie Stevens
A Comedy

A silly story of the space race between the US and Russia.

This film played on New Year’s Day when I was young.

While You Were Sleeping (1995)
(PG)
Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman
A Romantic Comedy

Sandra Bullock’s character is mistaken for a handsome man’s fiancé,
while he is in a coma.

Last Holiday(2006)
(PG13)
Queen Latifah and LL Cool J
Comedy

Finding that she only has three weeks to live,
Queen Latifah’s character uses her life savings
to enjoy all of the things that she has dreamed of doing.

Louisiana Trash, a Snack for Anytime

I am sharing a tried and true snack that my family enjoys anytime,
not just on New Year’s Eve.
The “trash”, mentioned in the recipe’s title, is derived from when this treat was originally mixed up and made in a grocery trash bag.
These days, I make it in a bowl, instead.
Enjoy!

Louisiana Trash

INGREDIENTS:

2 pkgs. dry Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing Mix

    1 cup warm vegetable oil
(Warm in the microwave for about 40 seconds.)

1 teaspoon Dill Weed

1 teaspoon Lemon Pepper

1 teaspoon Garlic Powder (optional, or less-to taste)

Dry Ingredients

1 pkg. small oyster crackers

1 pkg. regular, or peanut butter Ritz Bits
(cheese Ritz Bits are preferred by some in my family)

2 bags crunchy Cheetos

1 bag small shaped pretzels

1 16 oz. jar dry roasted peanuts

1 12 oz. can Spanish peanuts (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

Mix well, the first five ingredients in pyrex pouring bowl:
Hidden Valley Ranch packets, warm vegetable oil,
Dill weed, Lemon pepper, optional garlic powder

In a separate very large bowl, mix the six dry ingredients together.

Pour the pyrex bowl liquid over the dry mix.

Stir well, until dry ingredients are coated.

Store in air-tight container for an hour to over night.
