Trick or Treat!

IMG_7703 2

I stand in my kitchen, Rice Krispie pumpkin in hand, with my two Mickey jack-o-lanterns in the background, ready for trick or treat.

Autumn’s Greetings my friends! (For those of you in the Australia and the Southern Hemisphere, Happy Spring!). I am hoping that you are enjoying that all that this time of year has to offer, such as…

Pumpkins!

These little guys certainly are enjoying the many pumpkins available for sale at this Iowa farm.
Thank you, Rachelle, for the use of this cute photo!

The Goodies!

Trick or treat/Halloween is almost upon us!   I share with you a fun treat to create, (rather than a trick). :o) I happily enjoy the company of my four year-old grand daughter once per week at my house.  During our time together, when she is not playing, we do a craft and make some edible treat.  This week we made Rice Krispie Pumpkins.  They were a hit. :o)

Making Rice Krispie Pumpkins

The ingredients are shown above,
but make sure that your package is filled with marshmallows. :o)

(I forgot to take this photo before we began cooking.)

Once the marshmallows and butter are melted, add the food coloring.

Stir in the Rice Krispies

We used small sandwich bags on our hands, and applied PAM on them.

Then, the fun part began, forming the Rice Krispie treats into balls,
placing them on a wax papered cookie sheet.

We then added the finishing touch of half a pretzel stick for the stem,
and a green m & m for the leaf.   ( A few m & m’s were eaten in the process :o))

The Recipe

Rice Krispie Pumpkins

IMG_7629.jpg

Ingredients

5 Tablespoons of butter

1 10-oz. bag of marshmallows (I used the small ones.)

6 cups of fresh Rice Krispies

Red and Yellow food coloring (I used the gel food coloring variety)

Stick pretzels, broken in half

Green m & m’s

PAM cooking spray

Small sandwich bags

Directions

Prepare a large cooking sheet by covering with wax paper.

In large pan, melt butter over low heat.
(Do Not attempt to make these in the microwave, as the texture will not be right.)

Add marshmallows, stirring until completely melted, and mixed in with the butter.

Remove from heat.
Add to the marshmallow mixture- 6 squeezes of yellow food coloring, and 2 of red.
Stir to make orange color.

Add Rice Krispies.  Work quickly to stir together.

Using small sandwich bags on your hands, spray with PAM.

Roll the Rice Krispie mixture into balls, and place on the wax papered cookie sheet.

Push one half of a pretzel stick into each ball for the stem.

Push in a green candy m & m next to each pretzel stick for the leaf.

Enjoy!
