Love Those Mickey Mouse Waffles!

Photo Feb 07, 18 16 33.jpgMy daughter and I stand happily with Mickey Mouse during our
February 2015 visit.

I am unashamedly a Disney Foodie. I love going to the Disney parks, and enjoying the Disney cuisine. Tasting the wonderful and varied park foods, enhance the overall Disney experience. Although, I can not be at Walt Disney World, or Disneyland everyday, I can cook Disney recipes at home, reliving the fun through the fabulous flavors.

IMG_2758.jpgI often check out the Disney section of my cookbook library at home.
(Yes, check out and library was my weak attempt at humor. :o))
Cooking with Mickey Around the World (with the red binding, shown above)
was my first Disney cookbook, and is one of my favorite cookbooks of all time.

One of the most iconic of Disney fare is the Mickey Waffle. It is a personal favorite of mine.  A simple breakfast treat that never disappoints, a bite of a Mickey Waffle always brings a smile to ones face.

IMG_4293 (1)IMG_8828IMG_0674 (1)Just a small sample of the Mickey Waffles consumed by Yours Truly over the years.  :o)
(It is even better with iced tea, as evidenced in the center photo.)

A few years ago, after a fun Walt Disney World visit, I began a quest to find a Mickey Mouse waffle iron of my own.  Research revealed, that Vitantonio waffle makers, those closest to the variety used in the park, were no longer being manufactured. (Of course!)  Research also revealed, that some three-pronged models of the Mickey waffle maker had been recalled due to bad wiring. See the recall here and here.  Carefully checking the recall numbers against the ones for sale on eBay, I eventually snagged myself a genuine Mickey Mouse waffle iron!  :o)

My handy dandy, two-pronged, Vitantonio Mickey’s Waffler was an eBay find.

Through the magic of the internet, and more specifically Pinterest,  Mickey Waffle recipes are abundant. I had made waffles using these recipes, but something was missing. Additionally , as any waffle-lover can attest to, creating waffles requires separating eggs; not particularly conducive to the creation of a speedy breakfast. Then my daughter, Martese, shared with me the secret of quick, real Disney-like tasting waffles :
Carbon’s Golden Malted Pancake & Waffle Flour!

IMG_1787Carbon’s Golden Malted Pancake & Waffle Flour had been the missing ingredient to a perfect Mickey Mouse waffle made at home.
I bought mine on Amazon here.

IMG_1816 (1)Mickey Waffles are now mine with these few simple ingredients.

IMG_1819IMG_1818Just like Mickey makes, and no more separating eggs!

IMG_1820
I carefully ladled the batter into the waffle maker.
For a great YOUtube tutorial on how to use this waffle maker, I found this.

IMG_1822Isn’t this cute?

IMG_1823Using my waffle tongs, I remove the culinary prize.

IMG_1824Yum-O! Just like Walt makes!
In fact, I always use real maple syrup, which makes these gems even more delicious!

The first and last batch of Mickey Waffles that I made with the old-fashioned,
egg separating, recipe.
They were good, but were not exactly like the ones in the park.
(No, the screwdriver was not required for the recipe!)

Hi, I love your collection of cookbooks. I have just got cooking with Mickey around our world and my first one I got 10 years ago is the kids Mickey Mouse cookbook. I love them and want to collect all of them. Is the volume 2 different recipes. I would love to know more about your favourites. I love vintage Disney cookbooks!

      Hi, Rhea!
Thank you! I do love my Disney cookbooks! My favorite one?
Wow, I love “Cooking with Mickey Around the World”(1986), my first WDW cookbook acquisition, and its sequel, volume 2. (Volume two has additional recipes as there were then more parks, but many of the same, as in the first one.) They are packed with a lot of recipes, but having played with many, some are better than others. (See my old posts for when I attempted to try out various recipes). I have tried to no avail to bake “The Land”‘s “Chocolate Chip Cookies, and they have never turned out. I do love “The Contemporary French Toast” and King Stefan’s Banquet Hall “Beef and Barley Soup”, however! “Tavern Sherbet Punch” is another winner.(https://imannette.net/2018/04/16/spring-has-sprung-sort-of-and-so-has-the-mickey-cook-along/)
I also use “Cooking with Mickey and the Disney Chefs” quite often.
Happy Disney Cookbook Collecting, and thanks for reading,
      Annette
